There are plenty of WiFi/4G Modbus gateways on the market. If you've ever installed and operated one for real, you've likely hit exactly these three annoyances.

Config means going on-site

Every parameter change is another trip to the field, plugging in a USB cable, opening software. A plant with many scattered measuring points → a time and travel-cost nightmare.

No idea if it's running or failing

Configured, then the device goes silent. To know whether Modbus is talking, the technician has to stand there watching the RS485 lights blink and… guess.

I'm not tech-savvy — how do I set it up?
No worries. iNut RS485 shows the data right in the iNut app/web — you just view it. We configure the monitoring interface for free. If you later need a deeper dashboard/SCADA (FUXA programming, control), you upgrade to iNut Datalogger.
Where is my data stored?
All communication and monitoring go through your own MQTT — your data belongs to you, not locked on the vendor's cloud. Need long-term on-site storage? Upgrade to iNut Datalogger.
How do I know if Modbus is failing?
iNut RS485 reports real-time status right on MQTT: OK (success), Timeout (slave not responding), CRC Error (noise/link error). Wherever the error is, it shows there.
If WiFi drops, does the device go offline?
No. iNut RS485 uses WiFi and 4G in parallel and auto-switches per your policy (prefer WiFi, prefer 4G, or automatic failover). When one path falters, the device moves to the other to stay always online — with no data gaps.
My device uses an STM8 chip — will it work?
Yes. iNut RS485 is compatible even with devices using STM8 chips — exactly where many cheap gateways stumble.
