For a container truck, the engine is the heart — and also the part most prone to giving out. Hauling heavy loads over mountain passes, running long distances under the midday sun, a radiator clogged with scale, a weak fan, or a failing water pump: temperature climbs silently. Drivers often only find out when the gauge needle is already in the red or smoke is billowing out — by then the head gasket may already be blown, the cylinder warped, and the truck stranded on the highway with a whole container of cargo running late.
The manual approach — watching the dashboard gauge, waiting for a warning light, calling the driver to ask — is always a reaction after the fact, with no data to trace back. iNut flips the script: sensors are placed right at the heat source, data is transmitted wirelessly to a gateway, thresholds are compared and alerts fire before dangerous levels are reached, while the full history is logged so the maintenance team knows which truck needs attention next. Measuring at the heat source — coolant, oil, exhaust, bearings
The dashboard gauge shows only a single number, and it's usually delayed. iNut places dedicated sensors right at the hot spots: coolant temperature at the radiator inlet and outlet, lubricating oil in the crankcase, exhaust gas in the piping, and bearings / brake drums. RTD PT100 probes or thermocouples are used for high-temperature ranges, read through the iNut RS485 module over Modbus — accurate and stable even in the vibration and grease of the engine bay.
Wireless connectivity — no cables run under the chassis
Running signal cables along a tractor unit's chassis is a nightmare: vibration causes breaks, oil corrodes the wiring, maintenance is hard. iNut uses WiFi Mesh to wirelessly transmit data from the measurement points to a gateway mounted in the cabin, and runs on battery power — charged from the truck's 24V electrical system or a small solar panel for a reefer trailer parked in the yard. Nodes form their own mesh and automatically reconnect after a brief signal loss; install once, and the data flows in on its own.
Instant overheating alerts — before the needle hits red
This is the "truck-saving" part. iNut sets multi-level thresholds — yellow when it starts running high, red when it's dangerous. Once the yellow threshold is crossed, the system instantly pushes Telegram and Email messages to both the driver and the operations team: which truck, which measurement point, what temperature, and how fast it's rising. The recipient has time to pull over, check the radiator or reduce load — instead of finding out once the smoke is already rising. The alert includes the trend, so it can tell "hot from climbing a pass" apart from "hot because the water pump is about to fail".
Automatic threshold-based intervention — no need to wait for a human
Alerts are for people to know; automatic control is for the machine to act instantly. Through iNut PC at the edge layer, you pre-configure scenarios: when coolant temperature hits the threshold, a relay switches on the auxiliary cooling fan; when a reefer trailer's bearing runs abnormally hot, the compressor load is reduced and a warning light flashes in the cabin. The logic runs locally, so it keeps working even without a network connection — humans only step in when truly necessary.
Real-time monitoring — the whole fleet on one screen
Data only has value when it can be seen. iNut PC collects the readings locally, then uplinks over 4G to iNut Platform — a self-hosted cloud platform with a SCADA-style dashboard. Operations can view the whole fleet on a single screen: which trucks are running, the temperature at each measurement point, which ones have entered the alert zone.
