Monitoring soil parameters with iNut — soil moisture, temperature, pH, EC & NPK in real time

Plant health lies beneath the soil. iNut places sensors right at the root zone to continuously measure soil moisture, soil temperature, pH, EC (salinity/conductivity) and NPK — data streams in real time, triggering automatic irrigation & fertilization by threshold, with instant alerts the moment the soil "cries for help".

The right soil, the right amount, the right time — no more manual guesswork and finding out only once the plants wilt.

Soil Parameters with iNut

Soil doesn't speak in words, but it always "tells" its state through numbers: soil moisture shows whether a plant is thirsty or waterlogged, pH determines whether the plant can absorb nutrients, EC reflects the salt/fertilizer concentration in the soil solution, and NPK reports the remaining nitrogen – phosphorus – potassium. Manual measurement is sporadic — a few readings a week — arriving late and insufficient for timely decisions: by the time you see yellowing leaves, rotting roots or compacted soil, it's usually too late.

iNut turns "reading the soil's pulse" into a continuous data stream. Dedicated sensors placed at the root zone take readings every few minutes; data is transmitted wirelessly to the gateway, compared against thresholds to auto-irrigate and auto-fertilize, push instant alerts and display visually on the dashboard. Growers no longer have to guess — they see the soil.

Measuring exactly what matters — 5 core soil parameters

A single iNut probe inserted into the root zone can simultaneously read soil moisture (VWC – the water actually available to plants), soil temperature (affecting germination and root activity), pH (nutrient solubility & uptake), EC (salt/fertilizer concentration, warning of salinity or over-fertilization) and NPK (nitrogen – phosphorus – potassium). Everything arrives in one place every few minutes — dense enough to reveal trends, not just a single snapshot.

Wireless, solar-powered — no cables across the field

Fields, riverbanks or hillsides often have no grid power and running cables is a hassle. iNut RS485 reads the sensors and relays the data over WiFi Mesh — nodes pass signals to each other, covering long distances without extra infrastructure, powered by solar panels so a single install runs all year round. Multiple measurement points spread across the plot all feed into one gateway.

Automatic threshold-based irrigation & fertilization — soil that self-regulates

Once you have the data, let the system act on it. Set thresholds once: soil moisture drops below the limit → irrigation valve opens automatically, and shuts off once moist enough; low EC signals nutrient deficiency → dosing pump injects the right amount of NPK then stops; pH drifts off range → an alert is raised for action. The logic runs at the edge layer on iNut PC, or controls relays/valves via iNut Muro — closing the loop between measurement & adjustment right on the field.

Instant alerts via Email & Telegram

Soil suddenly turning saline, moisture plunging from a burst pipe, or pH drifting outside the safe range — you need to know right away, not the next morning when you walk out to the field. iNut PC at the edge continuously compares readings against thresholds and pushes alerts via Email/Telegram the moment limits are breached, with a 4G uplink so it keeps working even where there's no fixed internet. One timely message can save an entire crop.

Real-time monitoring on the iNut dashboard & app

All soil data is displayed visually on iNut Platform (self-hosted cloud, SCADA-style dashboard): moisture/temperature/pH/EC charts over time, a map of measurement points, thresholds and alert history. iNut Datalogger records every minute for retrieval and trend analysis, while the iNut app lets you view readings, change thresholds and remotely switch devices on/off right from your phone. Want to connect to an existing SCADA/PLC? iNut OPC speaks OPC UA/Modbus/XML-DA.

What do you gain from monitoring soil with iNut?

Accurate irrigation, water savings

Timed by actual soil moisture, not the clock — no more overwatering that causes waterlogging or underwatering that leaves plants thirsty.

Precise fertilization, lower costs

Track EC and NPK to dose fertilizer accurately, avoiding over-application that causes soil salinity and waste.

Early anomaly detection

Salinity spikes, pH drift or a burst irrigation pipe are all flagged instantly via Telegram — fix issues before plants are harmed.

Data to optimize the next season

Moisture – pH – EC history is retained, enabling transparent traceability and process improvement season after season.

Caring for the soil is caring for the root

We often only look at the part of the plant above ground, but everything good or bad begins in the root zone. When moisture, temperature, pH, EC and NPK become numbers we can see every minute, plant care stops being guesswork and becomes evidence-based — keeping the soil, a grower's most valuable asset, healthy for the long run.

iNut does just one thing: bring the soil up to the screen and let the system tend to it at the right time, instead of hands having to time every watering and every feeding.

If your soil could send you a message every time it's thirsty or tired — would you want to hear it?
