Light is a plant's "food", yet it's the hardest thing to pin down: the human eye can't measure photosynthetic photon flux, some days are scorching and others overcast, and inside a greenhouse, shade nets and roofing cut light unpredictably. Manual control usually swings between two extremes — turning lights on by gut feel, which wastes power while plants still go under-lit, or leaving plants "light-starved" for days without anyone noticing until they get leggy, pale-leaved, and flower off-schedule.
Proper light control isn't about "switching lights on for the sake of it" — it's about delivering the right total daily light integral (DLI) at the intensity and photoperiod suited to each plant type. iNut automates all of this: sensors measure continuously, the system accumulates DLI throughout the day, compares it against the target, and tops up light exactly as needed — you set the scenario once and monitor everything from your phone.
Measuring Light — No Guessing, Just Measuring
The human eye just sees "bright" or "dim", but plants care about very specific numbers. iNut collects photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) (µmol/m²/s), daily light integral (DLI) (mol/m²/day), red – blue spectrum, illuminance (Lux), UV index and photoperiod (hours of light exposure) — all in one place, updated in real time so you know exactly whether your plants are getting enough light or not.

Scheduled Lighting & Optimal Intensity
Every plant type has its own "light ration": leafy greens need a different DLI than flowering plants, and seedlings differ from mature plants. iNut lets you set a photoperiod lighting schedule (e.g. 14–16 hours/day) and a DLI target for each zone. The system accumulates natural daylight through the day, and whatever is still missing gets topped up by LED lights in exactly that amount — switching on automatically in the early morning and evening, and switching off at midday once there's enough sun, to save power.
Wireless Connectivity — Lighting Coverage Across the Whole Garden
A nursery or greenhouse has dozens of measurement points and light arrays scattered around. iNut RS485 connects sensors and control devices via WiFi Mesh: each node both transmits and relays for its neighbors, covering a wide area without running long cables. Outdoors, the nodes run on solar power, so they can be installed anywhere and data still comes back reliably.

Automatic Threshold-Based Light Compensation
Set a threshold once and let the system handle the rest. When PPFD drops below the minimum level or the end-of-day DLI is falling short, iNut closes a relay to turn lights on or commands a dimmer to gradually raise intensity to just the right level; once there's enough light, it dims and switches off automatically. Using the same logic, the system can also coordinate pulling shade nets closed during intense sun to prevent leaf scorch — all running at the edge layer, independent of network connectivity.
Real-Time Monitoring & Instant Alerts
Your entire garden fits in your phone: view PPFD/DLI in real time, change schedules and thresholds, and switch each light array on or off remotely via the iNut app. At the edge layer, iNut PC collects data, runs the light-compensation logic, and pushes alerts via Email/Telegram when a light fails, DLI keeps falling short for days, or a sensor loses signal — long-term data is stored so you can review it season by season. The iNut Platform builds a self-hosted SCADA dashboard, while iNut OPC/Datalogger handle industrial-standard integration and storage.
